Aloha to my fellow SAG-AFTRA Hawaii Local members!
A big thank you to all who were able to come out to the Legislature a week ago to help give testimony in person and those who submitted written support for SB 1237. This is a bill that supports our industry with strong incentives that will lead to an increase in volume and frequency of productions for our islands. This positive step will result in more work opportunities for everyone!
Please watch your emails for calls for more testimony as these bills work their way through the various committees in both houses. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, contact me, your Hawaii Local president, our vice president and chair of the Legislative Committee, Charles Uyehara, or our executive director, Mericia Palma Elmore.
We also had an overwhelming response to our SAG Awards viewing party. We received more RSVPs in the first few hours than we ever have in the history of the event and we sold out! Our venue this year has the same room capacity as in pre-COVID years, but we reached capacity quickly with the incredible amount of people wanting to attend the awards show viewing in-person. Rest assured, our hardworking and amazing SAG Awards Committee will be pursuing an even larger room venue for next year. If you weren’t able to get on the waitlist for it this year, please know that your local committees are already planning another event for early this summer to celebrate and gather again. If you would like to help plan our Artists in the Park gathering, please contact us soon to volunteer and help make this event happen!
Thank you to all of you who support your fellow performers, our industry and our local union chapter. The countless volunteer hours you give to our Hawaii Local do not go unnoticed. We appreciate your time and efforts and, on behalf of the entire volunteer Hawaii Local Board, we thank you!
Pupukahi i holomua!
Unite to move forward,
Andrea “Andy” Sikkink
Hawaii Local President
