I hope you are having a good start to the new year, and staying safe through this latest wave of COVID.
As you know, the union has been in conservation mode since March 2020. But with COVID safety protocols in place, jobs have bounced back and earnings have rebounded to prepandemic levels.
I’m pleased to report that we can begin to work on member activities in our local, including scheduling virtual meetings for local committees. Our Local Board will meet Feb. 7 and review newly drafted committee mission statements. If you are interested in volunteering, consider joining a local committee and getting involved to help make our local stronger.
On a sad note, I want to mark the passing of Flo Ayers, a local voiceover legend, who went peacefully in her sleep at the age of 98. A trailblazer, Flo was among the first to make a living as a freelance voiceover artist in our local. She joined AFTRA in 1946 and SAG in 1985, and was honored in 2011 by our local for her many years of union support and for her outstanding professional career.
If you are interested in serving on a local committee or would like more information on the local resources available to you, send an email to wma@sagaftra.org. If you have any suggestions for the Local Board to consider, you can send them to the same address.
All the best,
Kathryn Klvana
SAG-AFTRA Washington-Mid Atlantic Local Board President
