A foundation of the Portland Local’s effort to increase union density in the Pacific Northwest is outreach to the producers who employ members. This year, part of that outreach included sponsoring Portland’s 48 Hour Film Project, an annual competition that challenges local filmmakers to complete a short film in 48 hours.

“The 48 Hour Film Project is the perfect opportunity to show local filmmakers how easy it is to use our contracts and work with our members,” said Portland Local President Michelle Damis. “It’s collaborative, creative and creates strong relationships in our market. It’s a great match!”
Local Board members were on hand to answer questions about the union and guide competitors on the process. The local also hosted the project’s closing night party, which brought local members together with producers and directors.
