Holiday greetings to all and welcome to our newly elected Portland board!
We have many challenges and opportunities on the horizon as we head into the new year. Working people are under attack and it is time to get involved. You are what makes this union strong and our strength as a union is greater when more members participate. This includes enforcing your contract, organizing your work and becoming an activist for the issues you care about. We must organize and SAG-AFTRA is leading the way. In the Pacific Northwest, we have been successful in organizing new industrials, low budget films and broadcast shops, and are currently taking on local commercials.
For many actors, commercials have been their bread and butter, however, the production of non-union local commercials has grown. That’s why SAG-AFTRA members are joining together in a member-driven initiative supported by the Commercial Performers Committee.
As the union embarks on a comprehensive Commercials Organizing and Recapture Initiative, participation by SAG-AFTRA leaders and members is vital. The commercials industry is quickly evolving, and we must evolve with it. To protect and expand work opportunities for professional performers in commercials, we are asking for you to get involved. SAG-AFTRA members must act. Check out our website and contact your local union organizing staff to get involved. As your union representative, I look forward to meeting you and working with you in the future.
Together, we can create change.
In solidarity,
Shellea Allen
Executive Director
