Local Prez Connects With Students

Michigan Local President Eric Wydra was invited to speak to Cheryl Turski’s Acting 3 class at Wayne State University in Detroit on Nov. 9, 2020. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the class is being held via Zoom this semester. Wydra spoke to the 15 acting students and discussed the history of SAG-AFTRA and its legacy unions, the benefits to actors of joining the union, the core functions of SAG-AFTRA (highlighting safety and The Safe Way Forward during COVID), considerations for an actor on when to join the union, and the various contracts, highlighting those that are beneficial to content creators. Wydra ended the presentation by telling the acting students that he looked forward to welcoming them as fellow SAG-AFTRA members when the time is right in their individual careers.
