During the pandemic, your Los Angeles Local Board continues to meet virtually to oversee matters that affect our local membership. Below, you will find a general overview of board meetings that took place in March, May and July of this year.
March 7, 2022
L.A. Local President Jodi Long’s reported on the enthusiasm and energy of the L.A. Local committee chairs and members who have begun meeting and working on behalf of Los Angeles members.
General Counsel Jeffrey Bennett reported on the union’s ongoing advocacy supporting current state and federal legislation.
Los Angeles Local Executive Director Serena Kung updated the Board on the expansion of virtual member activities for all locals effective for the last two quarters of the year and provided an overview of recent production in the L.A. area as released by FilmLA.
The Board approved L.A. Local committee appointments recommended by the chairs of several committees and received updates from the following L.A. Local committees: Communications, Executive, Government Affairs and Public Policy, Government Review, Honors & Tributes, Member Outreach Relations and Education (MORE), Members Organizing Volunteer Efforts (MOVE), NextGen Performers, Radio Plays, Seasoned Performers, Sexual Harassment Prevention, Stand-In/Rehearsal, Women’s and Young Performers

The Board received an update from Chief Contracts Officer Ray Rodriguez on contract provisions included in the recently ratified 2022 Commercials Contracts.
Los Angeles Local Executive Director Kung reported on recent local activities and provided an operations update.
The Board approved several L.A. Local committee member appointments recommended by the committee chairs and filled a vacancy on the L.A. Local Board.
The Board received updates from the following L.A. Local committees: Communications, Executive, Government Affairs and Public Policy, Government Review, Honors & Tributes, MORE, Organizing, Sexual Harassment Prevention, Stand-In/Rehearsal, Women’s and Young Performers.
Various issues related to governance, programming and initiatives were discussed and items were referred to committees for consideration and recommendation.

L.A. Local President Long reported on the successful relaunch on May 25 and 26 of L.A. new member orientations sponsored by the MORE Orientation Subcommittee, the first held since the start of the pandemic. The next sessions are scheduled for Sept. 7 and Sept. 8.
Long reported that member-suggested agenda topics are being solicited for Local Board meetings and are currently being reviewed.
It was also noted that discussions on self-tape auditions continue both locally and nationally.
Kung reported on the two events selected by the L.A. Local Board from proposals submitted by Los Angeles committees. Additional events will be planned as programming guidelines are further expanded.
The Board scheduled a virtual Los Angeles membership meeting during the fall of 2022, with the date to be determined.
The Board received updates from the following L.A. Local committees: L.A. Local SAG-AFTRA Radio Plays, Communications, Open Board and Young Performers. The Board also received updates from chairs of the L.A. Local EEO, Executive, GAPP, MOVE, Honors and Tributes, HOST, NextGen and Sexual Harassment Prevention committees.
Various issues related to governance were discussed and items were referred to committees for consideration and recommendation.
