Made in Hollywood Honors Go to 18 Emmy-Nominated Projects

 

Amid a substantial increase in local television production, Los Angeles City Councilman Mitch O’Farrell and SAG-AFTRA member and Emmy Award-winning Scandal star Joe Morton presented the 2016 Made in Hollywood Honors for television Sept. 7.

Launched in 2011, the Made in Hollywood Honors recognizes both Oscar and Emmy-nominated projects produced in the Golden State. This year’s list of 18 Emmy-nominated TV projects represents a wide range of categories, including Limited Series, Variety Sketch Series, Comedy Series, Variety Talk Series, Children’s Program, Television Movie, Animated Program and Short-Form Nonfiction or Reality Series. 

“While production decision-makers have many choices today as to where their shows can be filmed,” stated Councilman O’Farrell, “there’s simply no substitute for filming in California. “The entertainment industry thrives here and its professionals live and raise their families here. We have the infrastructure, from the caterers, prop and costume houses, to talent, crew, to our vast studio system and ideal outside film location sites. Hollywood is the place to be.”

“Our depth of creative talent and skilled crews are the best in the world,” added Film Commissioner Amy Lemisch. “For actors, shooting in Hollywood is like going to New York to be on Broadway,” Morton noted.

“Increased production is good for all of our members who are positively affected by the return of production to our home,” said SAG-AFTRA Secretary-Treasurer and L.A. Local President Jane Austin 

Nearly 100 industry professionals attended the event, with former Councilmember Tom LaBonge serving as the emcee alongside Morton.

SAG-AFTRA is a sponsor of the Made in Hollywood Honors program with Councilman O’Farrell and industry partners FilmL.A., the California Film Commission, Teamsters Local 399, Film Musicians Secondary Markets Fund and the Producers Guild of America, and corporate sponsor 1600 VINE. The next MIHH presentation will occur in February to honor local Oscar-nominated films.
