Shereen Balles

Continuing the tradition of our past member spotlights, meet Hawaii actor Shereen Balles. Originally from the island of Oahu, she is Kanaka Mā'oli and a happily married mother of four. Her acting career includes roles in various movies and television series in the islands of Hawaii.

Why did you join SAG-AFTRA?
I received a Taft-Hartley after earning three vouchers from working on Hawaii Five-0 (reboot) and ABC’s Off the Map. It was a privilege and an honor to join.

What does membership mean to you?
Membership is a commitment to our art, our craft and our industry, as we are given the honor and platform to represent professionalism and integrity.

Tips for younger performers today?

  1. Acting is a team effort. The industry ebbs and flows. It may feel like a competition at first, but remember that everyone deserves to shine. Keep that in your heart and the role that is perfect for you will come in time.

  2. Be humble. Give and receive your best. You will be remembered and reap the benefits from your positivity and aloha.

  3. Sharpen your skills by taking industry acting, voice, singing, music and stunt classes, even after that perfect role. Commit to this investment in yourself.

  4. Network with people in our industry.

  5. Immerse yourself in learning the intricacies of this craft.

What is your biggest career accomplishment?
I am treated with the utmost respect by every one of these beautiful entertainment industry professionals: acting, writing, production and music.

What are you currently working on?
I am returning as a series recurring background core NCIS special agent for the third season of NCIS Hawaii. Plus, I am writing the script for my second movie and writing the music and lyrics for my fourth music album.

Tell us something about you that no one knows.
I make super-tiny origami paper cranes.

The Hawaii Local SAG-AFTRA membership extends its deep appreciation to Shereen for being our “kahu” and conducting the blessing at our local rallies on Oahu, Hawaii Island, Maui and Kauai.
