With everything going on in the world today, you could be forgiven if you missed the results of the Portland Local’s 2021 election when they were announced on August 21.
Michelle Damis will continue as local president, Harold Phillips will continue as local vice president, and Chrisse Roccaro will continue as local secretary. National Board member Mary McDonald-Lewis was elected to an additional term on the Local Board (the Portland Local Constitution stipulates that the National Board member serve on the Local Board for the first two years of their term; they may then run for a second two-year Local Board term if they so choose).
Pamela O’Hare and Rachael Perrell Fosket were both reelected as Board members at large. They are joined by Kristina Haddad, who previously served from 2017–2019, and first-time Board members Erick Avari, June Eisler and Tim Gordon.
“My No. 1 priority is to demystify what it means to do a union project, says Haddad. “I’m looking forward to educating the film community about the advantages of working with our union so we can all benefit.”
Similarly, Eisler says she “looks forward to breaking down barriers to local productions by improving communications with members, producers and agents.”
“My goal is to make Portland the indie film capital of the world,” Avari says, “and have fun doing it.”
Fun is also on Gordon’s mind. “As public health conditions improve,” he notes, “I want to plan some gatherings for education and fun.” The lone broadcaster on the Board, Gordon also says he “hopes to find ways to improve union connections to local broadcasters, encouraging integration into the broader group and our many shared interests.”
All of these Portland Local members will volunteer their time over the next two years, guiding the Local through their work on the Board and the Local’s Committees.
