The long-held tradition of hosting a table at the Phoenix Film Festival Industry Night continued on April 5 at the Harkins Party Pavilion, where the SAG-AFTRA Arizona-Utah Local engaged with prospective producers and members. Visitors to the table were greeted by volunteer members and staff, who provided handouts and union-made candy.
Local Board member Saylor Billings explained what she likes about the event. “It’s great! We get to interact with other artists in the industry — not just other actors, but everyone involved with making movies. As members, we get a lot of questions from actors at every stage in their career. So it's nice to either steer them in the right direction or clear up confusion about joining and contracts.”
“It’s really important that SAG-AFTRA has a presence in our local industry. Members get to network with filmmakers and other members. And having staff on hand, visitors are able to get questions answered right away and have a contact for any future questions,” emphasized Joe Corcoran, Local Board member and volunteer coordinator.
Many thanks to our member volunteers Natacha Bachour, Billings, Chris Davis, Nancy Hall, Shannon Land, Mike Lawler, Marilyn Swick and Jeff Unterkofler, who all generously gave of their time and goodwill. Thanks also to Director of Locals Administration Lisha Brock for her support.
