Dear Fellow SAG-AFTRA Colorado Local Members,

It’s been a very busy past few months for the local with lots of events to engage you, our valued member. I’ve really enjoyed meeting so many of you at our various gatherings:

  • Last summer and fall, it was awesome to see a great number of you at our local strike actions, rally and supporting events.
  • Once we had a tentative agreement in November, we gathered and celebrated our monumental achievement at the Sie Film Center.
  • Then just before the holidays, we had a virtual membership meeting to welcome new members to our Colorado Local.
  • We kicked 2024 off with a SAG Awards viewing party that offered the chance for us to get together and celebrate our union family. Many of you attended and dressed your best while celebrating our wonderful colleagues receiving awards on the big stage!
  • Last month, we stood together in support of our film incentive bill, HB24-1358, and joined many other Colorado film and media stakeholders during CINEMA Day 2024 at the Colorado State Capitol. Our testimonies were key to getting the bill passed through multiple rounds of House and Senate Committees.
  • Most recently, we had a very insightful and educational #AdsGoUnion in-person event featuring an amazing presentation by Sue-Anne Morrow and Shaine Griffin, respectively the national director and manager of the SAG-AFTRA Contract Strategic Initiatives and Podcasts Department.
  • SeriesFest: Season 10 was the place to be for the Colorado Local and this year’s festival didn’t disappoint. We were thrilled to have so many SAG-AFTRA-sponsored events and panels this year! It was great to see so many of you there to represent in force! Whether you attended the Spotlight on Leadership panel, the SeriesFest Soireé, the Storytellers Live Read or any of the other panels and events, it was a great week with many opportunities to connect with each other.

We're reconstituting our local committees for this term. Please reach out to colorado@sagaftra.org or (303) 934-2674 if you're interested in getting involved, and we'll find a committee that fits your interests. Your voice is important to us.

If you know of other SAG-AFTRA members who have recently moved to our market, encourage them to transfer their membership to Colorado as they won’t get our local mailings and announcements until they are registered here.

I’m delighted to share with you that over the next coming weeks, we are fortunate to have several great events for our members:

  • SAG-AFTRA Coffee Connections: Join us as we relaunch the Colorado Local Coffee Connection. These events are open forum gatherings where SAG-AFTRA Colorado members can discuss matters of importance, share what’s on their minds, and network in a relaxed environment. Our goal is to establish regular “coffee talks” in different geographic locations throughout Colorado so that we may stay connected and help each other in our unconventional profession. We look forward to seeing you there! Stay tuned for more information.

We are planning more SAG-AFTRA events to engage in-person, build our community and provide more opportunities for you to learn and grow. Look out for those announcements.

In solidarity,

Sonny G.
Colorado Local President
