My Fellow SAG-AFTRA DFW Local Members,

I hope this message finds you and your families healthy, safe and warm. To say that too much of 2020 has carried over into 2021 is a Texas-sized understatement. The only thing that seems to be consistent these days is that every day brings new challenges. But with those challenges come new opportunities.

In response to the pandemic and weather-related events that have impacted our members, the SAG-AFTRA Foundation Disaster Relief Fund offers emergency financial assistance to members in urgent need. The Foundation has been working around the clock to process applications, which are available to all members of SAG-AFTRA, regardless of where you live. If you or a member you know is in dire need of assistance, please don’t hesitate to ask for help.

As more SAG-AFTRA members are auditioning (and sometimes working) from home, the opportunity to create our own entertainment projects is now easier than ever with the new SAG-AFTRA Micro-Budget Projects Agreement. In the past, members seeking to create their own content to showcase their talent might face a signatory process that required several steps and levels of paperwork to complete. This new agreement provides a streamlined signatory process for independent content creators working with a budget of $20,000 or less per picture or episode. Whether you’re planning on entering a film festival, posting to YouTube or just creating demo material for your own website, the new Micro-Budget Project Agreement gives you a fast and flexible tool to ensure your content is a SAG-AFTRA-covered project.

And finally, the challenges of communicating with each other on a regular basis in our DFW Local have always been a bit of a struggle, due to the wide geographical nature of our local’s territory. With the pandemic in full swing, it’s kept us more isolated than ever. Thankfully, with the development of online meeting tools such as Zoom and Skype, we now have the ability to connect members from all over Texas, as well as Oklahoma and Arkansas.

In fact, I’m pleased to announce that we will be having our first, virtual DFW Local membership meeting via Zoom on Monday, April 26, 5:30 p.m.– 7 p.m. This will allow all of our members to connect with one another, to learn about the work that SAG-AFTRA and your Local Board are doing on your behalf, and to find out about ways you can keep involved as a member. We hope to see you there!

We are all different, and as such, only we truly understand the personal struggles that each of us are going through. But the more we can come together — as a family of union sisters and brothers — the more we can take on these challenges with the strength, encouragement and determination that only comes from being a union member.

In unity,

Brent Anderson
DFW Local President
