Hello Houston-Austin,
I am your new local president and thrilled to be representing SAG-AFTRA members who call South Texas home. We are a diverse group of talented actors, stunt performers, voiceover artists, musicians and more who work locally and all over the world. Getting to know your community is essential. And getting involved with union service is a valuable tool for your career. Our business is all about relationships ... relationships with industry as well as other actors.
I invite you to get involved. Take a look at our Conservatory, Member and Industry Outreach committees that work to educate and network with local industry professionals. Where would you most like to serve? Do we have your current email on file? Have you joined our social media pages, yet? Whatever your level of involvement, it is your engagement that makes us strong.
Interested in committee service? We’re accepting applications for service now. Each committee has a minimum of three members, up to a maximum of 13 members, not counting co-chairs. As our local covers a large area of South Texas, committees will meet remotely via Zoom in an effort to coordinate activities in both the Houston and Austin areas. Application deadline is Feb. 17 at 5 p.m. CT. Your applications should include your name, committee preference(s) and a brief statement about your background and desire to serve. Do not include your full resume. (Note: An application does not guarantee placement.) Send your application to Local Executive Director Trish Avery at trish.avery@sagaftra.org. You can also join our local mentorship program, where new and transfer members are assigned a local mentor to provide one-on-one guidance, referral sources and friendship as you transition to our local.
I challenge you to dream big and know that you have a family of SAG-AFTRA members who are here for you. If you have questions or concerns, feel free to email me at HoustonAustin.President@sagaftra.org. I welcome the opportunity of getting to know you.
