Happy Spring and Bluebonnet Season,
What a wonderful time we had, coming together to celebrate this year’s SAG Awards nominees and winners during our local viewing party at the Wax Myrtle in Austin. It was so great seeing everyone in person, taking pictures and celebrating our newest members, who we got to pin after the awards ceremony. A huge THANK YOU to our producers, Laura Koons and DJ Morrison, for putting together a phenomenal event, our master of ceremonies, 2nd VP CeeJay Joseph, and Betsy Currie for helping us secure our amazing venue.
Thank you to everyone who participated in our local TV/Theatrical wages and working conditions Zoom meetings, which were co-chaired by local member Craig Nigh. Zoom meetings were held from December to February, with members sharing their concerns and issues which were carefully considered by all those who participated and sent to the national W&W negotiating committee.
Did you know that you can now take your birthdate off of IMDb — and for free? You will have to give them your credit card number to verify your identity, but once that is done, you can take your birthdate down off your page. You can also gender identify if you so choose. You can follow the video made by SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher to learn how.
Please save the date of May 21, 2023, for our next in-person Conservatory event in Houston that you don’t want to miss. Stay tuned for more information and an official invitation soon.
As we head into the summer months, please take time to remember all of the goals and dreams you have already accomplished. And if you have been giving thought to serving your Local union, information on running for local board positions will be coming your way in May.
As we celebrate the end of National Women’s Month, I would like to leave you with a quote from our former governor of Texas, the late and great Ann Richards, “I did not want my tombstone to read, ‘She kept a really clean house.’ I think I’d like them to remember me by saying, ‘She opened government to everyone.’”
In solidarity and always looking forward,
Mykle McCoslin
