Dear Member,

With a strike authorization in hand, the TV/Theatrical Negotiating Committee sat across the table from the AMPTP on June 7. Our contract expired on June 30, but in order to keep bargaining in good faith, it has been extended to July 12, 2023.

I want to thank the many L.A. members who helped get the word out by phone banking and reaching out via email/social media to your network of member friends for this strike authorization. It gave us an unprecedented turnout of 47.6% of eligible members, with 64,717 votes cast!

This strike authorization vote was initiated on the unanimous recommendation of the SAG-AFTRA TV/Theatrical Negotiating Committee and National Board, with the full support of your L.A. Local Board.

When we come together to fight for what is right, it is awesome

Much appreciation to our amazing staff, who worked ’round the clock to help facilitate all the phone banks, organizing and messaging that went over these many weeks.

And last but not least, thank you to all our L.A. members who volunteered for picket lines, helping to support our sister union, the WGA. It does not go unnoticed!

I am happy to report that a change in the culture within the union is really happening. I am particularly delighted to see many of our younger members speaking up and getting involved, for that is truly the path forward to a more sustainable union, for they are our future leaders.

On another note: The L.A. Local committees have accomplished a great deal in these last two years with limited resources, so my sincere thanks to the committee chairs and the committee  members for all their hard work. Much gratitude also to our L.A. Local staff, headed by L.A. Local Executive Director Serena Kung.  As your L.A. president and one of the co chairs of the negotiating committee, moving forward together, all good things.
