Happy 2023 to all! Warm wishes for a dynamic year of production and broadcasting in New England.

In partnership with the AFL-CIO, the union is offering new SAG-AFTRA senior benefit plans for all Medicare-eligible members. Also worth a mention is that members can connect with the Entertainment Community Fund (formerly The Actors Fund) to help assess your health insurance options. I successfully used their expert service twice to help me navigate my health care options.

A new year brings new projects and a reminder to our actor/performer members to be mindful of Global Rule One. When offered work, make sure it is signed to a union contract. It is very easy for producers to do projects under the union’s national Micro Budget Agreement or a commercial or a Co/Ed (corporate or educational) video under one of the New England Regional contracts.

I highlight the New England Regional Commercials Code, which was renewed in 2022 with new rates but the same ease of use for producers. This local contract is tailored for regional advertisers to easily hire SAG-AFTRA performers at competitive rates with flexible terms. Highlights of the contract include:

  • Predictable Rates - One rate covers the session and use fees.
  • Flexible Use Options - Rates for four weeks, 13 weeks or one year.
  • Multiple Platforms - Rates include broadcast and local cable, theatrical/industrial and all digital use.
  • Signatory Options - A producer can sign the contract for only one production or receive even further rate reductions by signing a full-term contract.
  • Less Paperwork - All it takes is a quick call and an easy signature from production.

More information can be found at sagaftra.org/adsgolocal. Actors/performers can use this regional code as a tool to flip jobs. Be proactive and download images here to share on social media using the hashtag #AdsGoLocal. Reach out to local staff at newengland@sagaftra.org for help working with any producer.

Be on the lookout for an upcoming Conservatory event on how to use the New England Regional Commercials Code and other contracts to flip jobs union. On that note, the local conservatory committee is open to conservatory ideas, topics or speaker suggestions for 2023. Please email any suggestions to newengland@sagaftra.org.

Finally, I am very excited to promote our local in-person SAG Awards viewing party to be held Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. at the Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline. Click here to RSVP. Registration is required by Saturday, Feb. 25. Members may bring a guest. Tickets are free and include dessert and door prizes. See you all dressed in your best on the red carpet!

Wishing all an excellent year filled with rewarding gigs and assignments. And always remember to check the local website sagaftra.org/NE, the member app and email blasts for updates.

Sincerely,

Andrea Lyman
