I hope that you are all enjoying the beginning of spring as much as I am.
I know that we are still looking for that big bump in activity for our industry. It always seems to be just around the corner. While no one can predict its coming, there are hopeful signs, and I can assure you all our film offices, commissioners and production companies are truly doing all they can to attract projects to our beautiful state. We have been represented at film festivals, meetings have been set up in lots of jurisdictions, and we are all optimistic about the possibility of great results.
It was fabulous to see so many of you in person at the SAG Awards viewing party in February, held in Santa Fe. Almost 90 members and their guests were in attendance. A great time was had by all.
On March 13, SAG-AFTRA joined the IATSE Film and Media Day at the Roundhouse. The governor opened the rally, reiterating her support for the industry and the incentives that make it happen. She introduced a surprise guest, Emilio Estevez, who will star in another Young Guns film later this year. Four of your fellow members brought greetings and spoke eloquently about their lives as successful local actors: Deanna Allison, Ryan Begay, Melissa Chambers and Clint Obenchain. SAG-AFTRA had a table and engaged with many members and provided answers to pre-members. Thank you to all who attended and voiced their support for our union and appreciation to our legislators for the incentives we rely on.
There is another upcoming opportunity to show your support of our union. The Gallup Film Committee invites you to their third annual Gallup Film & Media Expo on Wednesday, April 30, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. SAG-AFTRA will be hosting a table and we would love for you to join us. Please let us know if that is a possibility by emailing us at nm@sagaftra.org.
Thank you for your continued engagement in our union. All the best for a great summer filming season.
Cheers,
Talia Pura
