Dear Member,
Unionism is activism and we need our unionism now more than ever.
Your SAG-AFTRA National Board voted unanimously to send a strike authorization vote to members. We need eligible members to vote yes. Please know that this is not something we take lightly, and that if you vote to authorize a strike, no work stoppage would occur before our contract expires on June 30, 2023. We implore you to vote YES and give your negotiators the tools they need to get the best deal for you that they possibly can. Postcards were mailed to eligible voters with instructions, and the deadline to vote is 5 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. ET on Monday, June 5. More information is available at sagaftra.org/contracts2023.
SAG-AFTRA is strongly in support of the Writers Guild of America in their fight to achieve a fair and equitable contract. It is long past time for the studios, streamers and other employers in the entertainment industry to remove roadblocks to fair and equitable wages and working conditions, and to agree to terms that reflect the unique worth and contribution of creative talent and the workers without whom the industry would not exist. As the compression of middle-class laborers continues in stark contrast to the ever-increasing millions in profits for the studios and their CEOs we will continue to engage in this battle. SAG-AFTRA will continue to join WGA at their pickets. Please check sagaftra.org/wgastrike for the latest information.
We had a packed house at our Membership Meeting on May 15 where the spirit of Unionism and Solidarity with our sister union was strong. It was wonderful to be back together after three years of virtual meetings and have the chance both to share our successes and priorities and to hear your ideas and concerns. Thank you to everyone who joined.
See you on the picket line--
Forward together,
Ezra Knight
