A Message From N.Y. Local President Ezra Knight

Dear members,

Incredible news out of Albany — on Friday Governor Kathy Hochul signed bill S.7676-B, ensuring performers' digital voice and likeness cannot be replicated for use in new performances without informed consent or representation by a union or a lawyer in New York State. We are grateful to New York State Senator Jessica Ramos and New York State Assemblymember Helene Weinstein for their work on the bill, and all they do to protect SAG-AFTRA members. Thank you to all of the members who reached out to their state legislators to show your support for this bill. After working its way through the legislature, it passed unanimously in both houses. This result was aided by the collective action of members like you.

Your New York Local Board wishes the happiest of holidays to one and all! It was wonderful to spend time with so many of you at our New York Holiday Open House. Thank you to the New York Host Committee and volunteers for putting together a warm, fun and festive gathering.

The new year will bring many more opportunities to gather. Please save the date for our annual New York Local SAG Awards viewing party, which will take place on Sunday, Feb. 23. Details will be sent out via email in the coming months.

Also in the new year, stay informed about the upcoming Commercials Contracts negotiations happening in the spring. We had productive wages and working conditions meetings in New York which concluded last month. I am grateful to all of the members who participated in the W&W process, attended an informational meeting or caucus, or sent feedback to the union. The participation of our active membership is key to bringing about the changes we want to see in the varied parts of the industry where we work.

Please continue to support striking video game performers. That fight is not over. Show your solidarity online with #LevelUpTheContract, #SagAftraStrong and #VideoGameStrike.

Keep up with union news every way you can. The latest issue of SAG-AFTRA magazine is available online. Many thanks to all of you following the official SAG-AFTRA New York Local Facebook and X accounts. If you haven’t yet, please follow both accounts for important updates, SAG-AFTRA news and upcoming local events.

Here's to a meaningful and healthy holiday season, and all the best in 2025. SAG-AFTRA strong!

Forward together,

Ezra Knight

New York Local President
