Happy New Year! This year kicked off with the news that in her state budget, Governor Hochul proposed a three-year extension of the production tax credit program until 2029. The current program is funded until 2026.This extension would keep thousands of jobs in New York State, and pave the way for even more growth. The entertainment industry has shown its resilience over the last two years and an extended tax credit will be important for the New York community.
We had similarly encouraging news out of New Jersey, with Governor Murphy signing legislation to expand tax credits for digital media production in the state.
As I write this, the current wave of COVID-19 infections in our area has crested. According to the Governor’s office, New York State is officially on the decline, with less than 8 percent of tests returning positive results as of Saturday. This news is positive and we must remain vigilant to continue on this positive path. Our Return To Work (RTW) safety protocols are industry standard. Regular testing has helped keep production sets some of the safest workplaces in the state. Now testing is becoming more widely available for you and your families. Every home in the U.S. can now order four free at-home COVID-19 tests at covidtests.gov.
Finally, nominees for the 28th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced this month. Don’t forget to vote for your favorite performances. The SAG Awards® ceremony will be simulcast live Sunday, Feb. 27 on TNT & TBS.
Stay smart. Stay safe.
Forward together,
Ezra Knight
