As we head into Thanksgiving and the start of the holiday season of the most historic year in modern history, we can take a moment to focus on the things for which we are thankful. One of the things I am most thankful for is the community of SAG-AFTRA members, entertainment professionals, and greater NYC community at large who have worked to support each other during this unprecedented time. This year has been filled with great loss for so many of us, but it is during the darkest times that the light of our community shines through.

There are still many resources available for members who may need assistance this holiday season. The New York City Department of Education is providing free frozen Thanksgiving meals for anyone in need. Click here for details. Information about additional support services are listed on our NY Local COVID-19 Resources page.

As cases surge around the country, I urge you to remain vigilant in practices that reduce the spread of COVID-19. Please do not gather in large groups, and celebrate only with the members of your immediate household. A virtual gathering can be meaningful and there is no group better suited to exemplify the joy of the season via a screen than the members of SAG-AFTRA. Please virtually check in on your friends and neighbors. Be gentle with yourself and others.

With all of the stresses of the pandemic, it is normal to have moments of anxiety and depression. You may want to talk with someone especially during the holiday season. NY Project HOPE is confidential, anonymous, and free. Crisis counselors are available 8 a.m. -10 p.m., 7 days a week. The Emotional Support Helpline: (844) 863-9314.

Wear a mask, wash your hands, and practice physical distancing. I wish you and your family good health.

Onward together,

Rebecca Damon
New York Local President
