Dear Members,

As August comes to a close the hot labor summer continues to simmer: Unionism is everywhere! We’re in the sixth week of our strike, and still the AMPTP has not come back to the table, and to date, there has been no forward movement with our sibling WGA. But we will not back down. We will keep our resolve. The sight of so many of you on our picket lines and at our National Day of Solidarity last week was awe-inspiring. I’m also reminded by the 60th Anniversary of the March On Washington that when we come out in huge numbers in collective unity we are an important part of a very powerful legacy.

Let’s keep showing up strong.

The annual NYC-CLC Labor Day Parade and March is on Saturday, Sept. 9 - the Saturday after Labor Day. RSVP today to join your fellow SAG-AFTRA New York Local members as we take to Fifth Avenue with the presence of the entire New York City Labor movement behind us. The theme of the parade is “We Organize, We Rise.” We are truly in an existential battle for our profession because the AMPTP refuses to step into the 21st century. This moment is about the future of the industry and the future of Labor.

New York is a union town, and there is no better place to show our strength and solidarity than at the largest celebration of labor in the country. I look forward to seeing you there.

One last note regarding health insurance which I know is and will be a concern as the strike wears on. This week it was announced that the health plan will be extending active coverage to eligible participants. Members should also be aware that New York State offers a COBRA subsidy. You can read more about this program and how to apply here.

Forward Together,

Ezra Knight

New York Local President
