I write to you having just attended this weekend’s virtual National Board meeting where it was reported that member jobs and earnings had rebounded and reached a new high in the first months of 2021. This is especially true in New York where we have seen an increase in both the number of productions and jobs in the first part of 2021, exceeding even those numbers during the same time period in 2019.
Along with the DGA, IATSE, Teamsters and the AMPTP we recently announced a tentative agreement on adjustments to the COVID-19 Return to Work Agreement reflecting vaccines and other scientific advances. You can read more about the updates here.
The Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME) and New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) announced that applications are open for the third round of grants as part of The NYC Women's Fund for Media, Music and Theatre, which provides grants to encourage and support the creation of digital, film, music, television and live or online theater content that reflects the voices and perspectives of all who identify as women. Visit nyfa.org/nycwomensfund for eligibility details and to apply for finishing grants through Nov. 1, 2021.
Finally, yesterday was the 31st anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disability Act. While we cannot celebrate Disability Pride Month in person, I encourage you to join this year’s Virtual Disability Parade. Create a sign, message or photo that shows your pride and share on social with the hashtags #VirtualDisabilityParade #DisabilityPrideMonth #sagaftramember.
Onward together,
Rebecca Damon
