Dear Member:
Below is a statement that I have given to a national news outlet on the issue of fetal rights laws, which is at the center of recent media and advocacy efforts.
“The safety of SAG-AFTRA members is paramount. If any of these or other laws put our members at risk in their work environment, we will aggressively combat that – through legislative advocacy, legal advocacy and litigation, including our active amicus program, as well as partnership with other organizations working to reverse the impact of such laws or policies in the workplace. And, as always, I will be standing front and center to ensure that.”
I’m sharing this with you because I have been contacted by so many members with differing viewpoints, all of whom are concerned about the path our union will take. While these issues may at times divide our country, they will not divide our union. Our members know and understand that it is part of SAG-AFTRA’s mission to fight to protect our members from any threats or dangers in their workplace, including those arising from legislation or misguided government enforcement efforts.
We must protect the sacred mission of our union and always – always – do everything in our power to protect our membership while they work.
