Dear Member,

As I write this letter, the reality of the coronavirus crisis in New York is all too real. Friends and colleagues have been diagnosed with COVID-19; some are in critical condition and some have passed away. This destructive disease has torn a hole in our community and in our hearts.

During this unprecedented emergency, it is important to remember that we all have a role to play. Most importantly, we need to stay home to prevent the disease from spreading further. We should also take this opportunity to reach out to our friends and loved ones to ensure they don’t feel alone and work on maintaining our own mental health. And, be sure to express your gratitude to healthcare professionals, grocery store workers, reporters, firefighters, police, teachers and everyone who is doing their part to see us through.

I want you to know that your union is working around the clock. We have set up a COVID-19 webpage at sagaftra.org/covid-19 with all the latest news. We are working to protect our broadcaster members, many of whom are still on the front lines, delivering vital information to the public during this critical time. We are, of course, also exploring every possible option to support so many members who lost work or are otherwise struggling. While taking necessary safety precautions, we have maintained union operations to ensure members are getting their residuals. And, we are working with elected leaders at the federal, state and local levels to ensure that members are eligible for any relief bills that are passed.

Many of us are suffering great personal loss, and although we can’t be together in the same room, we can continue to support each other. I am so thankful for our union family; members have continued to be there for each other as these tragic events have unfolded. These are dark times, but with love and compassion, we will get through this.

Stay safe,
