Peter Moore

Dear SAG-AFTRA Twin Cities Members,

As you all have probably noticed, this spring has been a flurry of activity in the Twin Cities Local.

Our Local Organizing Committee has been advocating for the passage of the film production tax credit bill in the Legislature since the winter, and the bill is now on the cusp of becoming law. The passage of the tax credit would generate hundreds of good-paying film production jobs and bring millions of dollars in economic activity to Minnesota. The effect would be to instantly bolster our state's post-pandemic economic recovery and lay the foundation for the creation of a growing and sustainable industry in the state.

However, for all of the committee's work, we need all of you living in the state of Minnesota to reach out to legislators on the conference committee. You will find a link below to our most recent call to action. This is the stage of a campaign where our tenacity will pay dividends. If you have not already done so, I urge you to  call and email the legislators on the committee.

On April 20, in response to attacks on journalists in Brooklyn Center, the Twin Cities Local Board adopted a resolution condemning the attacks and urging Gov. Walz, the state Legislature and local leaders to address the issue of journalist safety.

Also on April 20, we welcomed members to our first all-virtual general membership meeting. It was the first time the membership of the local at large has had a chance to gather in the same (digital) place and hear updates from last year and our plans for the current year. We also took a moment to pay tribute to our friend and longtime Local Board member Barry ZeVan, who passed away on New Year's Day 2020.

This year also marks the 40th anniversary of the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Film Festival. Our friends at MSPIFF are offering SAG-AFTRA members a discount on tickets to this year's all-virtual film fest. Just use the code SAGMSPIFF40

Remember, there are many ways for local members to get involved in the important work of this union, anything from calling a legislator to local leadership.

In solidarity,

Peter Moore, President
Twin Cities Local
