Dear Members,
We’re happy to inform you that the employer trustees of the SAG-AFTRA Health Plan together with the union trustees appointed by SAG-AFTRA, have unanimously agreed to a one-calendar-quarter extension of health coverage for certain qualified participants who would otherwise lose coverage on Oct. 1, 2023, to account for work opportunities that may have been lost in May and June of this year due to the ongoing strike.
Qualified participants must be losing earnings-based or days-based coverage on Oct. 1, 2023, and have at least $22,000 in reported earnings (or 85 alternative days) from July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2023.
The approved extension to SAG-AFTRA Health Plan coverage will hopefully be welcome news to those impacted by the AMPTP’s refusal to make a fair deal on the TV/Theatrical/Streaming contracts. Nonetheless, we remain ready to resume bargaining so we can end the strike and SAG-AFTRA members no longer have to worry about the future of their health coverage.
SAG-AFTRA members who don’t qualify for the extension will receive a COBRA offer from the Plan. COBRA premium payment assistance or other resources that can help you find affordable coverage may be available to you through your state or through the SAG-AFTRA Foundation or the Entertainment Community Fund.
Please visit sagaftra.foundation and entertainmentcommunity.org for resources.
Questions about the extension and plan coverage can be directed via email through your personal portal on the Benefits Manager or directly to psd@sagaftraplans.org. Those without email access can call (800) 777-4013.
