Dear Twin Cities Local Broadcasters and Performers,
We have a lot going on in the Twin Cities Local, which makes this letter especially exciting.
I hope you have heard by now that SAG-AFTRA Twin Cities Local members will be marching on Sunday, June 30, with the Minnesota AFL-CIO and our sisters, brothers and siblings in labor in this year’s Twin Cities Pride Parade in Downtown Minneapolis. Our crew is growing, and we would love to have YOU join us on the 30th. Find out how you can add more SAG-AFTRA black and gold to the Pride colors here.
The business of convention 2023 continued on Saturday, June 22, and concluded on Sunday, June 23. You may remember we had to cut our national convention short last year during the strike, as the AMPTP was ready to return to negotiations shortly after it began. Once again, we had Randal Berger, Lily Rains, Veronica Wayne and myself representing the Twin Cities Local at convention redux. Thank you, Randal, Lily and Vera for your time and service!
We have had many new members join over the past few years, which makes this announcement even more joyful. We have two Member 101 sessions scheduled in mid-July. I highly encourage all new members, as well as members who would like a refresher on what it means to be a member of SAG-AFTRA and the benefits that come along with that, to join a session. We will also be covering new happenings in our broadcast and production markets. To accommodate members’ varying schedules, we are offering two options: The first session is Monday, July 15, at 1 pm, and the second session is Tuesday, July 16, at 7 pm. I hope you will try to join us at one or the other.
In case you missed the recent article on the Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards, congratulations are in order for some of our local members. Broadcasters at WCCO Radio and Minnesota Public Radio took home various honors for outstanding achievements in broadcast and digital journalism. Here is a link to the article to find out more.
Finally, this one is a long time coming: Please mark your calendars for our first in-person membership meeting since 2019. Details are forthcoming, but you can mark the evening of Monday, Sept. 16, for the next Twin Cities Local membership meeting. We are excited to be gathering in person again, and I hope everyone will try to attend.
In solidarity,
Casey E. Lewis
SAG-AFTRA Twin Cities Local President
