Miami Local New 50+ Committee
Close to one-third of the population in the United States is over 50 years of age. However, less than 5 percent of commercial advertising dollars targets this age group. You find actors at the top level of our industry in acting roles that are interesting and very involved - people like Tom Selleck, Viola Davis, Meryl Streep, Lily Tomlin, Martin Sheen, Benicio Del Toro, etc. However, we need to expand these opportunities to all performers over 50.
For this purpose, the Miami Local Board has created the new 50+ Committee. This committee has been formed to deal with the issues of performers age 50 and older. The committee will meet via teleconference and, when possible, work with other SAG-AFTRA committees to achieve its goals.
The purpose of the committee is to create a win-win opportunity for writers, producers and 50+ performers by encouraging writers and producers to create and produce significant content and roles, and to allow 50+ performers to work in these roles.
You are invited to volunteer for our new local committee. Any member in good standing interested in the topic is eligible to volunteer for this committee – all ages welcome! Volunteers selected to be on the committee will be notified of the final determination of committee appointments.
If you wish to be considered, you must submit your request to susana.carrillo@sagaftra.org no later than 5 p.m., Friday, Dec. 9. Please include your SAG-AFTRA Member ID, name and contact information.
