Dear Miami Local Members,

We enjoyed the SAG Awards in January and, with the summer upon us, now is the time to ACT — Action Changes Things.

Evolving technology is influencing and changing almost every aspect of our industry, from music, broadcast, auditions and castings to the way material is exhibited, the internet, social media and more. Even the changes in the new tax legislation have a direct impact on actors and entertainment industry professionals. So, in our Miami Local we are being proactive and setting up programs to give our members the tools to adapt and move their careers forward.

Recently, our local had successful events addressing our changing industry. In December, our 50+ Committee, chaired by Ellen Wacher, presented a panel made up of social media influencers who discussed how actors can build a digital brand through social media. In April, an amazing workshop on audiobooks and dubbing was presented by Manny Herrera in Spanish. The workshop was held in Miami and sponsored by the National Spanish Language Media Committee.

We are looking forward to offering more and new training events and workshops for our members. The Miami Local Conservatory Committee, under the leadership of Dave Corey, is in charge of putting together programs and series that will cover a wide range of topics, including self-taping, voiceover work, and stunt and safety.

This is your time to ACT for you and take advantage of these workshops and panels. Stay tuned for the notices. Hope to see many of you at SAG-AFTRA events.

Together we're strong,

John McKarthy
Miami Local President
