The Motion Picture & Television Fund has announced the launch of Care Calls, a new outreach service connecting volunteers with older industry members for a friendly call and to let them know about its services during the COVID-19 pandemic and stay-at-home order.
“We are finding people in need [of] groceries, financial assistance for rent and utilities, or just a friendly voice,” says Fredda Johnson, MPTF director for community & volunteer engagement.
For those interested in lending a hand to other long-term outreach services, there is also MPTF’s Daily Call Sheet, which arranges scheduled phone calls between volunteers and older industry members on an ongoing basis, and the Grocery Relief program, which has volunteers deliver pre-packaged boxes of essential groceries to seniors, retired or at-risk individuals.
For those in need and seeking assistance, please call the MPTF’s intake line at (323) 634-3888. If you’d like to volunteer and make outreach calls, please visit MPTF’s website to sign up.
