In order to respond to the unprecedented economic upheaval caused by COVID-19, and in an effort to ensure the safety of our members and agents, SAG-AFTRA has already strongly encouraged its agents to temporarily work from their homes, and to redirect business mail (including performers’ commissionable checks), to those home addresses while applicable stay-at-home orders in their locals are in effect.
However, as the full economic impact of COVID-19 unfolds, SAG-AFTRA continues to examine avenues of additional recourse that it can provide to its agent community. Many agents have indicated that they are struggling to maintain a commercial office space — a key requirement under the SAG and AFTRA agency regulations — during these challenging times. In response to these concerns, SAG-AFTRA is offering to extend an additional short-term waiver to its regulations. Where legally permissible, agents may temporarily work out of their home offices, without the need to maintain commercial office space, subject to certain conditions, as set forth in the waiver.
SAG and/or AFTRA franchised agents who wish to execute the waiver are encouraged to click here to review and initiate the process online. Agents are encouraged to contact the SAG-AFTRA Professional Representatives Department with any questions that they may have about the waiver. The PR Department can be reached at (323) 549-6745.
