What you should know about VITA
VITA is a two-hour self-help program. In workshop sessions, members complete their own tax forms assisted by trained volunteers.
Before scheduling an appointment to attend VITA, you need to pick up a VITA Packet. Complete the forms before coming to the appointment. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is offered to qualified members of:
Screen Actors Guild (SAG)
American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA)
Actors Equity Association (AEA)
In cooperation with the Screen Actors Guild Foundation, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the California Franchise Tax Board, the actors unions sponsor free assistance to qualified members. Why attend packet workshops? Packet workshops answer questions about:
1. What you can write off
2. Where to write it off
3. General record keeping information needed to expedite the forms class.
Attending the 90-minute packet workshop prior to the forms class is not required but is highly recommended. The VITA Program seeks volunteers to help fellow actors. Volunteers need not have previous experience with tax preparation. Free training is provided.
