Sunday, January 29, 2012 marked the 18th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards show. The Nevada Branch was one of several Branches that held gala viewing parties to bring members together to watch the live awards broadcast on TNT. This was our third year holding a viewing party, and the second at the terrific Tommy Rocker’s Mesquite Bar & Grill. Attendance has grown each of the last three years, and it was wonderful to see 55 SAG members and their guests enjoy the evening in solidarity.

The Nevada event is provided as a benefit to SAG members by Nevada Branch President Barbara Grant and the Branch council at no cost for attendance, and the Nevada Branch deeply appreciates the warmth of our host, Tommy Rocker’s. Tommy Rocker’s graciously provided finger food snacks for the gala and a happy hour menu and cash bar for those members who wanted to make it a night out. A special surprise swag bag was given to all SAG members in attendance and prizes were awarded for those who guessed the most winners. Top prize went to SAG member Glen Bass, with 10 correct guesses. Swag bags, a zippered canvas folio, included a Carrot Top DVD, a keychain and other goodies gathered by Awards chair Chris Rogers and his committee.

Nevada Branch President Barbara Grant, along with Vice President Arttours Weeden and the Nevada Branch Council, want to thank everyone that attended and made this such a fun event. The gala viewing party kicked off with a social hour at 4 p.m. The live awards show broadcast began at 5 p.m., and was shown on a large screen and select smaller screens providing clear viewing for everyone there. All eyes were on Ken Howard, as he discussed the upcoming SAG-AFTRA merger proposal. Details are now available online at SAGAFTRA.org.

Special thanks go to gala chair Chris Rogers and special event co-chairs Rick Rockne and Bobbie Wolff for their efforts to bring the event together. Additionally, thank you to the other volunteers who gave of their time to enhance the experience for fellow SAG members: Steve Lizotte, Vicky Curry, Glen Bass, John Burnside, William Jackson, Brian Grant and Audrei Karene.
