The Conservatory Committee of the SAG-AFTRA New Orleans Local hosted a Scene to Screen reading of George Sanchez’s screenplay A Place Unchanged at Community Coffeehouse in Mid-City on Jan. 2, reported New Orleans Local Conservatory Chair Artemis Preeshl.

The second Scene to Screen reading included 20 local SAG-AFTRA members who read roles from A Place Unchanged to encourage a local screenwriter to hear professional actors read his screenplay and offer an opportunity for SAG-AFTRA actors to hone their cold-reading skills and network with fellow union members.

Sanchez’s screenplay Lit by Lightening was selected for the initial table read in 2017. A New Orleans writer who has published three mystery novels, Lit by Lightening, Exploration’s End and A Place Unchanged, Sanchez has also co-authored a travel book and a theater textbook, and written documentaries aired on Louisiana Public Broadcasting and instructional videos for television.

The next Scene to Screen program will feature a screenplay of a new New Orleans screenwriter at Second Line Studios on March 19. The call for participants will be emailed to local members approximately two weeks prior to the Scene to Screen reading. Save the date!
