The Seattle Local is pleased to announce the hiring of new executive director Shellea Allen. Beginning Monday, March 21, Shellea will serve as chief executive for the SAG-AFTRA Seattle Local and administrator for the Portland Local. Formerly with UNITE HERE Local 8, Shellea brings a wealth of experience in organizing, negotiating collective bargaining agreements, legislative advocacy and administration. She has a master’s degree in Conflict Resolution from Portland State University and certificates in Mediation and Negotiations, and Arbitration. Shellea’s demonstrated ability to collaborate with industry and labor resulted in many successes on behalf of UNITE HERE workers she has represented. Her negotiating skills led to many contract gains and she organized many new workers in the hospitality industry. Rik Deskin, Seattle Local President and chair of the local search committee says, “Shellea totally impressed me and other members of the search committee during her interviews. She is a remarkable, likable addition to the SAG-AFTRA family and we look forward to working with her on this exciting new phase for SAG-AFTRA in the Pacific Northwest.”
Message From Outgoing Executive Director
March 18, 2016 is the last day for me as SAG-AFTRA Seattle Local Executive Director before my retirement. It has been my greatest honor and greatest privilege to have served in this position over the last many years. I cannot adequately express how much I have been touched and had my life transformed by knowing and working for all of our members in their diversity, their passion, and their devotion to Strength, Excellence and Unity.
