The San Francisco-Northern California Conservatory kicked off the year with a Jan. 29 panel titled Career Kickstart: Headshots and On-Camera Makeup. Los Angeles-turned-Bay-Area-based photographer Kirsten Lara Getchell and her longtime hair and makeup collaborator Rachel Rockwood were featured guests for the evening.
Moderated by Local Board member Anthony Cistaro, members gained insight into what makes a headshot pop, how to prepare for a photo session and how to evaluate your proofs. During the fast-paced panel, Getchell showcased many looks that can be created with simple adjustments to one’s makeup, hair and clothing. Rockwood offered additional makeup techniques for both women and men that reduce shine and help highlight a person’s best features.
Together, their unique approach helped attendees learn how to bring out their best look on camera, and many left inspired and ready to take on the new year.
