On March 23, SAG-AFTRA members joined Women Arts Media, the SAG-AFTRA New York Local Women’s Committee, and New York Women in Film and Television for their annual Women Arts Day at SVA Theatre in Manhattan. Women Arts Day is an annual event, held during Women’s History Month, which celebrates the power, creativity and diversity of women in the media. Two films were screened during the event: a documentary about female Taiko drummers called Finding Her Beat and a short film about an aging artist, Gone Before Your Eyes. After the screenings, guests were invited to stay for a Q&A with Terry Lawler, past executive director of NYWIFT and current special advisor to the Women in the Arts & Media Coalition; Finding Her Beat director and producer Dawn Mikkelson; Keri Pickett, director/director of photography; Jennifer Weir, producer and star of the film; and the writer and director of Gone Before Your Eyes, Cara Yeates.
