One Film, One New York Citywide Film Campaign, Through Sept. 13

What if everyone in NYC watched the same film at the same time?
VOTE NOW for the ONE FILM New Yorkers will watch together on Sept. 13.

Dear Friend,

Last week, in partnership with The New York Times, we announced One Film, One New York, a new citywide campaign to get everyone in New York to turn out on one special night to watch the same film at the same time. And what’s even better – New Yorkers get to pick which film they want to see.

The Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment has teamed up with the film critics from The New York Times to choose five films that were all shot right here on the streets of our great city, reflecting our diversity and the sounds of NYC.

The nominees are (drumroll): New York, New York, directed by Martin Scorsese; Desperately Seeking Susan, directed by Susan Seidelman; Crooklyn, directed by Spike Lee; The Wedding Banquet, directed by Ang Lee; and On the Town, directed by Gene Kelly.

Here’s how it works: During the month of August we’re asking New Yorkers to vote for the film they want the whole city to watch together. To encourage voting, we’ve assembled an amazing group of artists including Sting, Trudie Styler, Laverne Cox, Hugh Jackman, Katie Holmes and John Leguizamo – each one vying for votes for their particular favorite. Then on Sept. 13, New Yorkers can watch the winning film in public parks and select independent movie theaters in all five boroughs. Independent movie theaters are part of our city’s cultural backbone. We’re proud to both support these institutions through this campaign and to create opportunities for New Yorkers to get the theater experience for free. Watch our One Film, One New York video here:
