Los Angeles and New York (October 10, 2006)–The New York Board of Screen Actors Guild (SAG) today re-elected Paul Christie as the union’s 2nd national vice president. Christie, whose new term will run for one year, has served in the position since 2004 and remains a national board member until 2009. His term as New York Division president runs through next September.
“I am honored to have the continued opportunity of representing Screen Actors Guild members as the 2nd national vice president.” Christie said. “I am truly optimistic about the future of our union. Alan Rosenberg and I have developed an extremely productive and mutually respectful relationship, and I look forward to building on that as we go forward. There are many challenges before us, and I am excited by the prospects that new emerging technologies provide in terms of increased work opportunities for our members all across the country.”
Christie has an extensive career in television and radio commercials. Some of his work includes Louie the Lizard for Budweiser, the voice of Chrysler, Pontiac, Canon, Calvin Klein, Domino’s Pizza, American Express, Blockbuster, Miracle Gro, Discover Card, Scotts, HP Technology, and many others. Christie, who became a national board member in 2001, has sat on many different Guild committees—including the Commercials Contracts negotiating committee that recently bargained a two-year extension with advertisers.
“I congratulate Paul Christie on his re-election and look forward to another productive and unifying year,” Guild President Alan Rosenberg said. “Paul has been a remarkable leader not only for the New York Division, but on a national level as an officer. I value Paul's counsel and friendship.”
New York Executive Director Jae Je Simmons said: “I have worked closely with Paul Christie throughout his tenure at SAG, and I look forward to the continued leadership, guidance and insight that I am confident he will provide.”
In other SAG vice presidential elections, the Hollywood Division elected Kent McCord as the 1st national vice president at its board meeting October 3, while the Regional Branch Division will elect the 3rd national vice president at its next two-day board meeting October 19-20. Steve Fried is the Guild’s current 3rd national vice president.
