Loeb, wearing a plaid blue shirt, smiles with her hand on her chin. She has long, straight brown hair.

Philly Local member and KYW Newsradio journalist Patricia Loeb received an Edward R. Murrow Award in the Large Market Radio division’s Hard News category in August.

The Murrow Awards are given annually by the Radio Television Digital News Association, and the awards “recognize local and national news stories that uphold the RTDNA Code of Ethics, demonstrate technical expertise, and exemplify the importance and impact of journalism as a service to the community.”

Loeb’s story was on a mobile wound care van deployed to Kensington to treat the wounds caused by the drug xylazine, an animal tranquilizer that is now present in most street drugs in Philadelphia. She spent several hours in the van with an RN and the health aide who staffed it, and talked to people seeking care for their addiction. In addition to the on-air stories, Loeb wrote a long web story and embedded a 13-minute podcast that included a lot of the interactions between the providers and patients.
