Members of SAG-AFTRA Portland Local met on a Saturday morning in April, in order to build union solidarity while giving back to their community.

“Our members packaged 7,850 pounds of food at the Oregon Food Bank for the community’s hungriest folks,” said Portland Local President Duane Hanson. “This was Portland’s fourth annual team-building community service event, which shines a bright light on organized labor.”

The OFB supplies 10 million pounds of food and hygiene products annually to the needy, all of which is collected in the same county where it’s then redistributed.

Hanson added, “Next month, we have invited our sisters and brothers throughout the local labor movement to join us for a first-ever emergency preparation workshop at the AFL-CIO hall, where we’ve held our meetings since the local was shuttered.”
