Late Screen Actors Guild president, World War II veteran, political activist and Academy Award-winner Charlton Heston will be honored in a new postage stamp from the United States Postal Service. The stamp will be the third featuring a SAG president.
The First Day of Issuance ceremony will take place at the TCL Chinese Theater, 6925 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, Calif., on April 11 at 10 a.m. during Turner Classic Movies’ 2014 Classic Film Festival. The event is open to the public. At noon, TCM will debut a newly restored version of Orson Welles’ Touch of Evil, starring Heston.
Although Heston was outspoken on a variety of political issues, he was best known as the rugged leading man in films such as The Ten Commandments, Soylent Green, Ben Hur and Planet of the Apes.
Heston, who served as guild president from 1965-71, received the SAG Life Achievement Award in 1971 and is the 18th performer to be immortalized on USPS’ Legends of Hollywood series.
