Non-deductible (ND) meals for background actors: The ND meal may only be called within the first two hours of your call time. It is 15 minutes long and the performer must be freed of all activity. The first meal period to be given after the ND meal would have to be within six hours of the finish time of the ND meal. The ND meal must be a meal appropriate to the time of day and must be given only for the purpose of aligning your mealtimes with the crew's mealtimes.

Call time/dismissal time for background actors: If the performer is provided a courtesy shuttle/van to the set and is checked in and dismissed on-set, the time spent going to and from the set to basecamp is not work time. If you are checked in and checked out at basecamp and shuttled to the set, this is work time.

What are the advantages in choosing a SAG-AFTRA franchised agent versus a non-franchised agent?

Members who decide to engage the services of an agent to assist in the procurement of employment are required to choose among the legacy SAG and/or legacy AFTRA franchised agents in their jurisdiction. Members who fail to follow SAG-AFTRA membership rules with regard to the procurement of agency representation may open themselves up to potential disciplinary action. These precautions are necessary and vital in order to ensure that our members’ rights are fully protected. Remember, too, that SAG-AFTRA cannot assist/protect you in your relationship with your agent if that agent is not affiliated with the union. At the end of the day, members should be careful not to place themselves in violation of SAG-AFTRA membership rules by deciding to work with entities that are non-franchised agents.
