We are saddened to report the passing of our beloved former local president, Tom McNutt, last Saturday. Our hearts go out to his wife Helen (our former National Board member), his sons and their families.
An actor who appeared in numerous productions on stage and screen, Tom’s love of performance was exceeded only by his love for his fellow members and the acting community. For this reason, he chose to devote time to serving his fellow members. An AFTRA member since 1988 and a SAG member since 1989, he served as Philadelphia Local president of the merged union 2015-2017.
Tom was many things to many people: A leader, a colleague, a mentor, a husband and a father. He was also a beloved educator, both formally in his years as a teacher and also to so many of us in the creative community. I appreciated so many things about Tom, but mostly his welcoming nature and friendly advice to me as a unionist and fellow creative. Seeing Tom on set lit people up with joy. He was jolly and befriended everyone, even if they just met. Truly a loss for our Philly community.
Friends are invited to visit with Tom’s family on Oct. 1 from 10 a.m. until his Memorial Mass at noon at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church on 235 E. State Street, Doylestown, PA 18901. You may read his obituary at theintell.com/obituaries/psom0313616.
In unity,
Nikki Izanec
Philadelphia Local President
