Dear Member:
SAG-AFTRA stands with the New Hampshire AFL-CIO as we join together to oppose harmful “Right to Work” legislation that would cripple unions in New Hampshire. Please ACT NOW to help us in stopping this effort – see below for a message from the local AFL-CIO on how YOU can help NOW.
On Jan. 10, the NH Senate Commerce Committee took the first action toward making New Hampshire the next so-called “Right to Work” state. Despite hours of testimony opposing the bill, the panel voted 3-2 to send SB11 to the Senate floor with a vote recommendation of “Ought to Pass.”
Just today, the Senate voted 12-11 in favor of the bill. This was closer than expected, which is encouraging, but the bill now moves forward to the House.
That means we have no time to lose in getting our labor community to contact our elected legislators by phone or mail with a united message that “Right to Work” will hurt working families and is WRONG for New Hampshire.
Here are 2 important ways you can help right now:
- Join our phone nights in Hooksett. We’re calling New Hampshire union members to ask them to reach out to their legislators and tell them to oppose Right to Work. Phones are up and running 5-8 p.m., Monday-Thursday. Please call (603) 623-7302 to sign up for your shift.
- Call or write your own NH legislators. It just takes a minute to call your representative or write a short hand-written note and drop it in the mailbox. Find the name, address and telephone numbers of your state legislators right here: http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/house/members/housemembers.html
Once you’ve made your calls or mailed your letters, email rtw2017@nhaflcio.orgto and let us know who you have contacted and their feedback.
THANK YOU FOR STANDING UP FOR NEW HAMPSHIRE WORKING FAMILIES!
In Solidarity,
Susan Gorvine Nelson, New England Executive Director
