Roy Bahat is the head of Bloomberg Beta, a venture capital firm that was the first to focus on the future of work and the first to focus on artificial intelligence. Bloomberg Beta has invested in MasterClass, Slack, Flexport, and Textio, among other companies.
Roy chairs the Aspen Business Roundtable on Organized Labor, convening "labor open" business leaders to explore new ways of relating to organized labor and worker power. Following work he did with New America to understand the long-term effect of technology on work in America, Roy was a commissioner on the California Governor’s Future of Work Commission. He also created #thisisnotadvice, a community-edited guide on how to work, and hosts the [Going to Work] conference.
Roy serves on the faculty at U.C. Berkeley where he teaches two courses at the Haas School of Business, one on media and a first of its kind in the country course on leading an organized or organizing workforce (for which he was named one of the students' favorite MBA professors). As faculty, he is a member of the American Federation of Teachers (UC-AFT Local 1474).
He was named one of Fast Company’s Most Creative People in Business. In addition to his work at established corporations (including News Corporation, and Fox Interactive Media's IGN Entertainment) and starting a company, Roy has served in government and led a nonprofit.
Roy graduated from Harvard College and was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University.
