SAG-AFTRA members and staff were treated to an exclusive private tour of the new Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center on June 20. Among those in attendance were Star Trek: Discovery castmates Wilson Cruz and National Board member and New York Local Vice President Anthony Rapp; SAG-AFTRA Vice President, New York and New York Local President Ezra Knight; Vice President, Singers/Recording Artists and New York Local Board member Janice Pendarvis; and other member leaders.

The new facility celebrates the historic Stonewall Inn, the site of the 1969 Stonewall Riots, considered by many to be the beginnings of the modern-day LGBTQ+ rights movement. The center boasts a spectacular space that displays artifacts from the inn, as well as artwork recognizing early LGBTQ+ pioneers and stories from members of the community.

The center’s official opening and ribbon-cutting on June 28 was followed by a “Stonewall Day” live concert held at Hudson Yards Public Square and Gardens featuring performances from noted LGBTQ+ performers and allies, including members Elton John and Cynthia Erivo, and remarks from President Joe Biden. Also in attendance were SAG-AFTRA members Alan Cumming, Neil Patrick Harris, Adam Lambert and Katy Perry alongside politicians and other public figures.

During Pride Month and throughout the year, SAG-AFTRA recognizes and honors the accomplishments of the LGBTQ+ community and stands as an ally in its continued fight for equality.
