It is with great sadness that we share the passing of former Houston-Austin Local Board member Tishuan Scott, who died in a car accident on Saturday, February 13, 2021. He was 41 years old. Tishuan was an accomplished actor, activist and artist who was always eager to share fellowship with his SAG-AFTRA brothers and sisters.

Tishuan was pro-active in growing our local, and enjoyed sharing the benefits of joining the union while bringing diversity and inclusivity awareness to our membership. He was a member of both our Houston and Austin Conservatory committees and helped organize many of our events, including our SAG Awards viewing parties.

An Oprah Winfrey scholar, Tishuan received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Drama and Psychology from Moorehouse College in 2002 and a Master of Fine Arts in Film Acting from the UCLA School of Theater, Film & Television in 2006.

Tishuan appeared in over a dozen films, including Chris Eska’s award winning indie feature, The Retrieval, for which he won the 2013 Special Jury Recognition for Acting-Breakthrough Performance award for his leading role and Andrew Bujalski’s 2013 Computer Chess, which won the Alfred P. Sloan award at Sundance.

His undeniable talent, presence and service to our union will be greatly missed.

A GoFundMe memorial fund has been set up by his family and friends for his memorial service, with all remaining donations going towards a theater arts scholarship in his name. If you would like details, contact us at houstonaustin@sagaftra.org.
