The Recording Artist and Singers Committee (RASCals) of the SAG-AFTRA Washington-Baltimore Local  sat down with Washington, DC area recording artists on Tuesday, October 23, 2012. The event titled Struggles of the Local Independent Music Community: A Conversation about Your Needs was a joint effort with Metro Music Source, an organization that brings together local music industry professionals for networking events, panels, and community support. A group of 35 local artists, SAG-AFTRA staff, RASCals members, and the two founders of Metro Music Source, Dave Mallen and Jem Bahaijoub, met at the Dunes in Columbia Heights to begin a discourse about the challenges faced in the local music scene.

The event also had a raffle and silent auction with items donated by the Hard Rock Café DC, Rock & Roll Hotel, the Recording Academy DC Chapter, Frame Your CD, Innovation Station Music, imaginePR, and Carly Glazier Photography. Proceeds were donated to Metro Music Source for their continued efforts to bring together the DC-area music community.
